Form creates specific thermal effects. The project takes interest in how the three-dimensional characteristics of a building put an impact on the thermal conditions inside.
The crucial driver for the architectural form of the proposal is the site. The architectural form of a “virtual bridge” started from a number of urbanistic and environmental factors in parallel: the building’s internal activities’ visibility from the subway track and the surrounding, passive cooling and natural ventilation. The linear, thin bar shape running from east to west optimizes cross ventilation during spring and fall, continuous overhang on the south side provides shading and the concrete roof serves as thermal mass during winter.
As the horizontal slabs are the architectural datum, the layout of partitions can be irregular and playful. The partitions frame the relationship between the inside and outside, the building and the surrounding. From top to ground these vertical elements becomes chaotic, breaking its threshold and expand outward to from large, non-directional public spaces.
